The second match between the All England Eleven and the Australians was opened at Lords to day, there being a large attendance and fine weather. The English team is as follows :— Peel, Flowers, Wainwright, Mold, Lockwood, Jackson, Stoddart (captain), McGregor, Gunn, Shrewsbury, and Maurice Bead. Attewell was picked as emergency man. Grace's absence from the eleven is due to an injury to one of his fingers. Jar'vis, Walter Giffen, and Conningham are standing out of the Australian team. . . • The Englishmen, winning the toss, elected to bat, and- have lost three wickets for 168 runs ; Jackson 91, and Shrewsbury (not out) 43. Jackson was at the wickots for 4} hours, and his score included 13 fours. Bead played a cautious innings, and Peel gained his runs by steady play. Flowers, however, soon got to work, and drove two successive balls from Giffen to the boundary, but was missed by Turner when he had scored 12. The partnership of Flowers and Shrewsbury put on 8G runs for the sixth wicket. Shrewsbury was anapped up by Blackham when the total scoro stood at 298. The outgoing batsman gave a masterly display of cricket with but a few bad strokes and only one real chance. He was batting for four hours and 10 minutes.
