AUCKLAND ITEMS.
[Pbb United Press Association.] Auckland, October 1. Frederick Thomas, a lad nine years of age, died recently at Hakaru it was supposed from the effects of a fall downstairs. Inquiries since made appear to show that he had been ill-treated, and it is probable that tho lad's remains will be exhumed. A bush man named William George Todd, who was suffering from delirium tremens, cut his throat at Kamo last night. The wound is not very deep and he is now out of danger. A petition to His Excellency the Governor, objecting to further appointments to the Legislative Council, is in circulation at the instance of the National Association.
