December 28 The Irish Land Commissioners have reduced all judioal rents by an average of 14 per cent., involving a reduction of £360,000 in rentals. The P. and O. Company are building two steamers at Greeuoek for the Aus* tralian trade. Signor Brantino, the Italian Miniater of War, has asked the Chamber of Doputies to vote sixty million francs for armaments. December 29 The recent deoiaion of the Iriah Land Commission to reduce all judioal rentß to an extent averaging 14 par cent has called forth bitter oomplaints from the Landlord and Unionist papers generally. The Nationalist papers, on the other hand, express dissatistaction with the decision, declaring that the reductions I are altogether inadequate. December 29 The time for receiving applications for space having been extended, the Frenoh Government have deoided that France, shall participate in the Melbourne Exhibition. The Frenoh Consul at Melbourne has been appointed Com-missioner-General, and the Minister for the Colonies institutes a commission forthwith, he himself acting as chairman of the commission.
