CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
-+~ . (per united pbess association.) Auckland, May 6. A wealthy farmer, William Hirsl Martin, was fined £15, and costs or a month's imprisonment for crueltj ti animals. The cruelty consisted oi buying pigs in the market, and, instead oi branding them, he scored with a pookel knife gashes in their backs, seven and fivo inches long, respectively.
