STRANGE ASSAULT CASE.
• ♦ (per united press association.) Inveroargill, February 18, An outrageous assault was made to* day at Inveroargill railway station, on an invalid gentleman reoently from Melbourne, on a tour for the benefit of his health. He was sitting in tho station waiting for a train, when suddenly, aud without the slightest apparent cause, a man named McKinnon, mud drunk, seized him by the throat, &xxl threw him down and tore at him till biood cairn. It took four men to pull McKrunon off and secure him. Dissatiafaciion i-s expressed that no police supervision is given to the station, except on Saturday.
