Information has been received in town that the Waihora, bound from Hobart to Melbourne, struck uear Kddystone Point at 2.25 p.m. yesterday, and was bsaohed at Swan Island. Waihora, while on the voyage f - om Hobart to Melbourne, struck on the Eddystone rock point, at the extreme north-east of Tasmania, at 2 p.m. yesterday. The vessel proceeded some distance after striking, but the Taenaanian Steam Navigation Company's s.s. Southern Cross oomiug alongside, and the water gaining fast in the forehold of the Waihora, it was deoided to beaoh her at Swan Island, Bank Straits, which was accordingly done. The crew and passengers were safely landed at Swan Island, and the latter were afterwards transferred by the Southern Gross to Low Heads, whence they will be picked up and brought to Melbourne by the s.s. Flinders to morrow. (Eeceived February 18, 7.15 p.m.) The Waihora left Hobavfc on Tuesday evening for Melbourne, having on board over 200 passengers, and the weather being fine. When abreast of the Eddystone the vessel struck oa a rook, which she passed over. She was immediately put back into Sandy Bay,' but afterwards steamed on to Bwan Island) wh-re, as she was making water fast, and had eight feet of her plating kuocked off the bow, she was beached, and now lies with seven feet of water iv the hold, The Southern Cross was alongside at 4 p.m., and rendered every assistance required. Captain McGtee and the crew of the Waihora remain with the ship. It is stated that the rock was one not marked on the charts. (Eeceived February 18, 11 p.m.) Later advices regarding the Waihora state that the vessel has settled down on the Sand about a hundred yards distant from the shore. Strenuous exertions are being made by the officers and crew to save the horses. The weather continues favourable, and hopes are entertained that the live stock will be safeJy got ashore. The steamer Etherole and the tug Tronean have been despatched with pumps to Swan Island. It has been arranged that the Southern Cross shall bring on the Waihora's passengers to Melbourne.
