.February 15. A. warrant appointing the following additional commissioners for theOolonial and Indian Exhibition is gazetted:— Hon. dr. M. Waterhouse, W. Kenoaway, W". Levin, ¥i W. Pennefather, B. Patterson, J. M. Eiohie, G. Q, Ruasell, and Frederick Young. The first appeal against the asse sment .of charitable aid is being made by the Hutfc County Council, on the grounds that the amount charged against them is too large, and that the assess* ment is unfair. The oase will be heard in a day or two. In accordance with the wish of CarJinal Moran, the banquet at which he was to be entertained has been abandoned. The Hon. J. M. Larnaoh has been appointed honorary captain to the Peninsular Rifles, of Otago. At the inquest, on the body of young Griffiths, the verdict was found- drowned.
