ALEXANDRA CAVALRY.

The annual meeting of tbe above troop was held in the Victoria Hotel last night. Captain Sommorville was in the chair, and there were about 25 members of tbe troop present. • Annual Report.-- The annual report , and balance-sheet having been read, the Chairman said he thought that they should adopt the report with the except tion of the closing sentences embodying the resignation of the secretary. Corporal P. Hogg said that he had thought the matter over seriously, and found that he could not fill the pjsition again, as his private business would not allow of it. He then concluded by proposing Trooper Watt as hon. secretary and treasurer. A hearty vote of thanks was then, on the motion of Trooper Morgan, seoonded by Trooper Higgie, accorded to the late secretary. Surgeon Tripe then proposed that the troop grant an honorarium to Corporal Hogg. The latter, however, objected to receive it. B aster Encampment. . — On the motion of Sergeant Perry, seconded by Trooper Morgan, it was resolved, That the troop should atteni the Easter encampment. On the motion of Trooper Morgan, seconded by Trooper McKenzie, it was further resolved, That the troop should go into camp for their yearly encampment on the Monday previous to Good Friday, Election of Secretary. —Trooper James Watt was then, on the motion of ] Corporal Hogg, seoonded by Trooper Morgan, proposed as secretary. Trooper Watt said he thought Bomeone els_ could be persuaded to take the po3fc. He, however, would be quite willing to res lieve the secretary by taking over the ammunition accounts. Corporal Hogg said that would not make much differ" enca. No other member being found willing to accept the office hitherto so ably filled by Corporal Hogg, that gentleman at last waived his opposition, and it was proposed by Lieutenant Harrison, seconded by Sergeant Perry, and carried unanimously, That Corpora Hogg be re-elected secretary and treasurer for the ensuing year. The Council. — The following members of the troop were elected members of the eouucil for the ensuiug year : — Sergeants Perry aud Higgie, Troopers Wisdom, Dick, W, T. Watt, aud J. Watt. The Auditor. — & hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Notman for his services as auditor, and Mr Notman was re-elected auditor for the ensuing year. Phizes Presented.— The priz9s for the shooting which took place yesters day were then presented. ,_, Veterinary SuRGEON.--Sorae disoussion took place on the question of appointing a veterinary surgeon to the troop, and it was resolved, That at the next general meeting of the troop it should be decided whether or not a veterinary surgeon should b3 appointed. Cavalry Capitation — The question was raised as to whether the cavajry should not get larger capitation than auy of the infantry corps, on the ground that, on the average, each member of a cavalry troop has to supply from £25 to £30 worth of gear. The Captain stated that he would write to the Dafence Minister and io tb.3 captains of the various troops in the colony with regard to the matter.
