WANGANUI RIVER STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY.

A meeting of the directors of the above company was held in Mr Fjlmer's office last night. Present — Messrs Willis, Manson, Bennie, Soler, and Murray. The chairman being absent, Mr Willis was called upon to preside. Correspondence. — A letter was read from Wellington stating that Mr Nancarrow would arrive by steamer to« morrow (Thursday). The Collector of Customs replied, in answer to a letter, statiug lhat he would give full permis-* sion to the company to run the boat and to charge fares.— A letter was read from Mr D. Murray, stating that the corns pany could not run the boat until Bhe had been inspected. It also stated that he (Mr Murray) would run the boat on Thursday if the directors would take all responsibility. Agreed to. Pilotage. — The question was raised whether or not a pilot should be taken, but the captain said he thought it was not necessary up to Parakino. Steward. — It was reaolved, on. the recommendation of the captain, that the appointment of Mr Smith as cook and steward at the rate of £1 per month be confirmed. Engineer. — An acoount of Mr B. Openshaw's, for the inspectorship of the boat during the period of construction, was brought forward. -It was stated that Mr Openshaw had agreed to forego this claim if he was appointed engineer, at the rate of .£l4 a month. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Manson, seconded by Mr Bennie, That Mr Openshaw receive the appointment of engineer of the steamer at the rate of £13 per month, subjeot to Mr Murray's approval, Coal Supply.— lt was moved by Mr Bennie, and seconded by Mr Manson, That tenders be oalled for supplying the Bteamer with Brunner or Brookdale coal. Carried. Mail Sebvioe.*— Moved by Mr Bennie, seconded by Mr Murray, and carried, That a letter be written to the Government stating that as soon as the river improvements have been made the company will be prepared to" oarry the mails. Tuhtja Fares.-— Moved by Mr Bennie, seconded by Mr Manson, and carried, That the price per day for hire of the Tuhua, when convenient, for a day of nine hours, be at the rate of £12. Payment of Mr Mubray.— lt was moved by Mr Willis, seconded by Mr Bennie, and carried, That Mr Murray receive a P.N. for £317, in full payment of his acoount, with the exoeption of a maintenance deduction of 10 per oent. Managing Director. — Moved by Mr Manson, seconded by Mr Murray, and carried, That Mr Willis be appointed managing director until the annual meeting. Carried. Agent. — Moved by Mr Manson, and seconded by Mr Bennie, That Mr Filmer be appointed agent for the steamer at a remuneration of 5 per cent. Carried. Freight and Time-table. — The arrangement of freight oharges and time-table dates was held over until next meeting. Passenger Fares. — The fares as far as Pipiriki were fixed as follows : — Aramoho, ls ; Upokongaro, ls 6d ; Kaiwhaike, 2s ; Raorikia, 2s 6d ; Parikiuo, ss; Atene, 6s 6d; Koriniti, 7s CJ ; Karatea, 8s ; Banana, 8s 6d ; Tawhitinui, 9a ; Kawaroa, 9s 6d ; Hiruharama, 10s; Pipiriki, 12s.
