(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND. February 10. Tha Magellan Cloud, whioh arrived to-day, was placed in quarantine owing to Brisbane being an infeoted port. There was no sickness on board. Captain Matthews states that there was no contagious disease at Brisbane when he left. Mr Glover closed his temperance mission to-night, when the Theatre Royal was crowded. He leaves for Wellington by the Tarawera. OHRISTOHUROH. February 10. ln replying to-day to the deputation whioh advooated the reduction of fares on the Lyttelton and Christohurch railway line, the Hon. Mr Richardson said the reductions which had been made recently in passenger fares through the oolony had so far not given very en* couraging results. He held out no hopes of further reductions, but said it had been arranged that a late train should be ruu every night on the port line for the future. DUNEDIN. February 10. At the licensing nominations five can--* didates supported by the temperance party, and five by the licensed victuallers, were nominated for the city. The publicans deprecate the non-grant-ing of hotel lioenses by committees, it being a matter for Parliament to deal with.
