T ADIES & GENTLEMEN—I wish to announce that I am again a candidate for your support for my return to a seat on the Carterton Borough Council. I have been your representative for the past eight years, and have at all times endeavoured to do my best in the interests of the town and ratepayers generally, without fear or favour, my interests at all times being for ratepayers as a whole. The chief questions at the moment are a better water and drainage service. The two have been under consideration by the outgoing Mayor and Councillors, and arrangements are already in train for their completion as early as possible. Two new streets already arranged will be completed during the next term. I have, during my term in office, been your representative on the Carter Home Committee, the Gasworks Committee, Municipal Band, and in my early term as a Councillor, a member of the Library Committee and a member of the Works Committee, resigning from the latter when my work took me from Carterton. My interests have always been to work for the Borough to progress with economy, and to avoid unnecessary increases in rates. I have always fostered and encouraged sport of all kinds, and have been closely associated with many of them. The proposed Fire Board has my encouragement. Burgesses, your vote on Saturday will be appreciated. C. J. DeLACEY. Carterton, May 25, 1944. COUNTY ELECTIONS THE REASON WHY YOU SHOULD CAST YOUR VOTE FOR h. j. McKenzie TIE has had over thirty years’ practical experience in County work. He has studied the rivers, not only in the Wairarapa, but in other parts of New Zealand. He has had the of the County Council for the past thirty-five years, during which time he has been Relieving Overseer, Organiser for work for Unemployed during the slump; was in charge of Chimney Rebuilding after the Earthquake, and the job was carried out at a cost that was favourably commented on. He stands tor a different system of Rating for tfie maintenance of Water Races. Why should you be rated on your improvements? Improved Value Rating for the maintenance of waterraces is not a fair rate. He stands for an Acreage Rate. He is against building up large Bank Balances to carry out work in years to come. He favours lowering the rate NOW —the years to come will, look after themselves. . He stands for some Road Sealingbeing carried out each year. Norfolk Road and Lincoln Road should receive attention. He stands for Polling Booths going to the Electors, instead of, as at present, Electors going miles to the Polling Booths to cast their votes. IF YOU, MY READER, AGREE WITH ME THEN CAST YOUR VOTE FOR H. J. McKENZIE MANAWATU RACING CLUB. AWAPUNI RACECOURSE. WINTER MEETING, JUNE 10. PATRIOTIC MEETING, JUNE 17.
