EKETAHUNA

SIX O’CLOCK TEA PARTY MAYOR & MAYORESS HONOURED. (“Times-Age” Special.) . A six o’clock party was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, when the retiring Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs W. Olsen) were entertained by the co'uhcillors. Th'C Deputy-Mayor (Dr Simmers) presided. The guests included members of the staff and Mr. and Mrs. Scott. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. Grey. Before making Mt and Mrs. Olsen a presentation of a Chromitim fireside companion set, Dr. Simmers eulogised the guests for the unselfish and untiring work done while occupying the position of mayor and mayoress. He regretted very much indeed the Mayor’s decision not to seek re-election and wished Mr and Mrs Olsen the best of health in their retirement. Councillor Priest was then called upon to explain the symbols of each unit of the fireside set, and this was, rather cleverly done in the fotm of ah illuminated address. Councillor Marenzi expressed appreciation on behalf of the residents- of the valuable assistance given by Mrs D. Scott (the mayor’s daughter) while her mother had been indisposed. The Mayor feelingly thanked the councilolrs for their thoughtfulness in providing such a pleasant gathering, the illuminated address and the gift. He referred to the great difficulties which had been met with and. surmounted, and stated that the borough was well on its way to be in a very sound financial,, position. Councillor D.
