HOME HEALTH GUIDE
CONSIDER YOUR HEART SOME COMMON SENSE RULES (By the Department of Health) This is chiefly for people past the forties. But don’t let that discourage younger people from reading it. It won’t do them any harm. If you are getting into the middle years of life, and your health is still good, it’s about time you became intelligently appreciative of what your heart has done for you over those years. It has done a wonderful job, and if you want it to carry on doing that job there are certain rules you might heed. Here they are: (1) Do not subject your heart to sudden, strenuous or prolonged physical exertion. (2) Eat regularly, slowly and temperately. (3) Excessive overweight is a heart handicap —get sound advice as to how to reduce it. (4) Try and avoid physical activity for at least 30 minutes after eating, particularly after the heaviest meal | of the day. (5) Avoid emotional stress and strain. Worry is a factor in heart strain. (6) Keep your body free from foci of infection, such as bad teeth, tonsils, and so on. (7) Regular intestinal elimination is most important. (8) See that you get eight hours’ sleep in a room well supplied with fresh
air. (9) Maintain a sensible balance between work, play and rest. Rest is important. (10) Don't forget a periodic medical examination.
