COAL SHIPMENTS
IMPROVEMENT IN GREYMOUtA BAR STEAMERS LEAVE FOR NORTH (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, April 7. As the result of a sharp, unexpected improvement in the depth of the bar, the North Island, and Wellington in particular, can expect an early resumption of regular coal and timber shipments from Greymouth. At 10-15 this morning the Poolta with coal for Wellington, the Gabriella with coal for the North Island, and the Karu with timber for Wellington crossed the bar without difficulty on a depth at high wafer of 19ft lOin.
They were only part-laden as the result of the recent deterioration of the bar, but it was apparent that with a full draught they would not have been troubled. All had been tied up for an exceptionally long period, the Poolta putting to sea exactly a fortnight after being first scheduled to do so.
