SLIGHT EARTHQUAKE
FELT IN MASTERTON THIS MORNING. A slight though fairly prolonged earthquake was felt in Masterton at 10.19 a.m. today. It was preceded by a ioud rumbling noise. Although there was an absence of any sharp movement, the earthquake was strong enough to be felt by most people. It was estimated to be of strength four on the Mercalli scale and its direction was north-east to south-west. A fairly sharp earthquake was experienced in Masterton at about 2 o’clock yesterday morning. It was of sufficient strength to awaken some sleepers.
