HONOURS FOR AIRMEN

Eleven New Zealanders, members either of the R.A.F. or R.N.Z.A.F., serving on active air service overseas, are named in the New Year Honours list, details of which have been received from London by the Air Department, ■Wellington. Wing Commander James Leonard Moir, A.F.C., R.A.F. Air Force Cross. Acting-Wing Commander Kenneth Frederick Vare, R.A.F. Mother. Mrs. F. W. Vare, Wellington. Acting-Squadron Leader Rex Donald Daniell, R.A.F. Father, Mr. F. C. Daniell, Masterton. Acting-Squadron Leader Walter Desmond Heaphy, R.A.F. Father, Mr. P. C. Heaphy, Greymouth. Acting-Squadron Leader Rox Alexder Leslie, R.A.F. Mother, Mrs. Al. R. Leslie, Waitara. Warrant Officer Howard William Player, R.N.Z.A.F. Wife, Mrs. H. WPlayer, Wellington. Acting-Squadron Leader Maurice Craig Kinder, R.A.F. Mother, Mrs. H. M. Kinder, Auckland. .The following are listed as having received commendation for their services: — Flight-Lieutenant Charles William Halliwell Thomson, R.A.F. Father, Mr P. Thomson, Stratford. Flying-Officer Wallace Russel King. R.N.Z.A.F. Father, Mr. J. King, Te Kuiti. Flving Officer Hilton James Valentine’Atkins, R.N.Z.A.F. Sister, Mrs. G. J. Barbour, Timaru. McKee and Moir wore pre-war entrants into the R.A.F. work after a week. Lieutenant-Colonel Lord Brabazon, a former Minister of Aircraft Production, said today: “The jet propelled aeroplane has been of long development, but it is fundamentally a British contribution, to flight. It opens up very great possibilities and has brought a very high flying and fast flying machine within possibility. In the immediate future it is an essentially flghter proposition, but later it will be developed all along the line."
