DRASTIC ACTION
AGAINST BLACK MARKETING OF EGGS. DECISION OF CANTERBURY AUTHORITY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. In his statement on the subject of a wide development of the black marketing of eggs (reported yesterday) the chairman of directors of the Canterbury Central Egg Floor (Mr C. Ferguson) added that the position had now become so serious that the Internal Marketing Division had decided to take drastic action against those engaged in the black market. From Monday, Mr Ferguson said, all eggs distributed on the Christchurch market through legal channels would be stamped with the initials of the Central Egg Floor. This means that traders in eggs not bearing the stamp will be liable to prosecution and to have their eggs confiscated. It was intended to change the colour of the stamp on eggs each week. That would enable the Central Floor also to cope with complaints about eggs being stale.
