ADRIATIC PORT
BOMBARDED BY BRITISH DESTROYERS FIGHTING IN SAN VITTORE. AND IN ADRIATIC SECTOR. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) RUGBY, January 6. An Italy communique says: “British destroyers on Monday night bombarded Pesaro, a railway-served Adriatic port about 80 miles due east of Florence. “American and British troops of the Fifth Army launched an attack on rough mountain country. Advances averaging a mile in depth were made along a front of approximately ten miles. Street fighting is in progress in San Vittore, where the enemy has converted houses into pillboxes. “Stiff fighting continues in the Adriatic coastal sector. “Light bombers on Tuesday night attacked cehmical works at Torredepiassiera. Fires were left burning. “Bad weather yesterday limited air operations, but fighter-bombers attacked enemy gun positions in the Cervera area. One of our aircraft is missing.”
