DAIRY INDUSTRY DROP IN MILK SUPPLY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The continued long spell of dry weather is having a serious effect on the milk supply to dairy factories in the district. Unless a copious fall of rain is experienced soon, factories will be compelled to close down earlier than usual. Already some of the employees have been discharged as there is not sufficient work to keep them going. At Dalefield the supply is .10 vats, and at Belvedere 5 vats are being worked, and in each instance the make of cheese is below the quantity at this period last year. Damaged Caused by Pigs. Straying pigs have caused considerable damage on the property at Waihakeke of Mrs F. Campin, who is taking steps to meet the position. Personal Items. Able Seaman Noel Jensen is home on leave. Recently he met with an accident when, a finger of his left hand was badly injured by gun shot and had to be amputated. Mr W. C. M. Edwards 1, Mrs. J. Martin 2. Carrington Rainfall. Mr J. A. Roberts, of Carrington, reports on the rainfall for December as follows:—Rain fell on eight days. Iffie heaviest fall occurred on the 13th —1.18 inches. The total fall for the month was 2.25 inches. During 1943 the rain registered was 43.43 inches, as compared with 46.56 inches in 1942.
