School Uniforms.
A statement that he was asking principals of post-primary schools to relax the usual rules regarding the wearing of school uniforms.' and not to insist upon the wearing of school uniforms in any case which involved hardship to the parents or waste of clothing materials was made by the Minister of Education, Mr. Mason, in Wellington yesterday. Mr.. Mason said that many schools had already relaxed their rules in regard to the wearing of school uniforms. It was realised that in normal times the wearing of school uniforms had many advantages, but a considerable demand was now being made upon the clothing industry by the armed forces, and the Government wished to reduce as much as possible the civilian demand for special shades and materials.
