INTERESTING SOUVENIR

FROM NEW ZEALAND SOLDIER OVERSEAS. ASSOCIATION WITH GREEKS. A fine souvenir, in commemoration of the association of New Zealand and Greek soldiers at an instruction school in the Middle East, has been received by Mr and Mrs A. Kilgour, of Masterton, from their son, Sergeant A. F. J. Kilgour, who is posted to the Greek Army as an instructor. Surmounted by the Royal Crown and V for Victory, the design depicts a Greek citizen in national costume embracing a kiwi and a lion, against a background of the Greek flag, fern and oak leaves, while on the sides are the flags of Britain and New Zealand. Below are the words, “A Merry Christmas, 1942,” in English and Greek. The design was executed by Private Lewis, a member of the New Zealand staff, who was formerly a master of arts at a college in Wellington. It was handpainted by young Greek pupils whom he was instructing in such work. An interesting feature is the inclusion of the signatures on the face of the design of both Greek and New Zealand soldiers.
