PATRIOTIC EFFORT SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL AND DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Patriotic Committee held a most successful dance on Saturday evening, the hall being well filled. The prizes at euchre were won by Mrs Taylor with Mrs Spicer second, and the men’s prizes by Messrs Watson and J. Atkinson. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs Priest and Mr Bonuru. The raffles were won by Mrs J. Mundy (dinner), Mrs Evans (guinea), Miss L. Hutchison and Mr J. Smart (whitebait). The Monte Carlo for school children was won by Bob Burling and Annie Mclntosh and for the grown-ups by Judith Spicer and Ann Mclntosh. The M.C. was Mr S. Mclntosh and the music was supplied by Messrs Matenga (piano) and C. Berusen (cornet). Maori War Effort. A meeting of Natives of the district is to be held at the Kohunui Meeting House on Sunday to consider the formation of a tribal committee in connection with the Maori war effort. Women’s Institute. The Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting recently. The attendance was fair. Competitions were won by Mrs Lovegrove. Personal. Mrs W. Gray, Masterton, was the guest of Mrs O’Brien. Mrs Tomlin is also staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs O’Brien. Mrs J. Carter is staying with Mrs Himona, Hope Street, Masterton. Miss Rowe is relieving at the local school. Mrs S. Thomas is the guest of Mr and Mrs Longman, Waipukurau. Mr Frank Jennings, Junr., has commenced work at the local cheese factory as second assistant. Miss Ellen McDougall is staying with her aunt, Miss N. McDougall. Private “Lofty” Williams, while chopping wood recently unfortunately cut his foot severely and is now an inmate of a military hospital.
