Amount still to raise—£l3s 2s Id. BOWLING ANNUAL MEETING OF CARTERTON CLUB. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr F. L. Barr presided over the annual meeting of the Carterton Bowling Club held in the club pavilion last evening. There was an attendance of 22 members. « ' Votes of condolence were passed with the relatives of Mr L. J. Aplin and Mrs C. King whose deaths were recorded during the past season. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. Apologies were received from Messrs C. C. Callender, J. L. Harris, W. Martin and S. Hill. The president, Mr F. L. Barr, submitted a very comprehensive report of the - club’s activities during the past season. The balance sheet showed a big reduction on last year’s indebtedness. The match recorder, green committee, refreshment committee and social committee’s reports were submitted and approved. . The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr Gordon Hughan; president, Mr F. L. Barr; vice-president, Mr C. Larsen; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. H .Barber; auditor, Mr C. C. Callender; official match recorder, Mi’ C. J. DeLacey; official bowl examiner, Mr W. F. Stent; match committee, Messrs G. Riggs, G. W. Hart and R. Thompson; green committee, Messrs G. Hughan and H. Simmonds; refreshment committee, Messrs G. Hughan and J. Newbould; general committee, Messrs F. Harrington, G. Riggs, C. C. Callender, G. Hughan, H. Simmonds, E. T. Beaven and G. W. Hart and president, vice-president, and secretary ex officio; delegates to Wairarapa Bowling Centre, Messrs F. L. Barr, C. H. Barber and W .F. Stent. The meeting decided that the Booth Cup and Duthie Shield go into recess this year. It was resolved to support the proposal for a veterans’ tournament this season and to approve the holding of the Wairarapa New Year tourney at Mastertcn. It was resolved that trophies won last season be presented on the official opening day of the current season. The following were the winners of trophies:—Champion singles, W. Sorensen; champion pairs, L. Curtis and A. C. Tucker; progressive pairs, A. E. Panichurst (lead) and A. Thompson (skip); colts’ singles, R. Daysh; champion rink, G. Steven. W. Steven, H. Simmonds and W. Sorensen (s); Masson Cup, A. Thompson, R. Thompson, F. Harrington, and G. Riggs (s); DeLacey Buttons, D. Irwin and F. Harrington; Kellv Cup, H. Solson and R. Daysh. Mr E. Clark was appointed supervisor of the Pavilion Committee. It was resolved that the secretary write to the Wanganui and Haitaital Club for particulars of their progressive pairs games. It was decided that the champion fours, champion pairs and singles competitions be run on the same conditions as last year, and that the subscriptions for male and female members remain the same as last year. The question of holding a social evening as a wind-up to the season’s activities was left to the management' committee with power to act. It was decided that competitive games be played on alternate Saturday’s during the season for the benefit of the club funds, conditions to be left to the match committee. The honours board donated last season to the club by Mr J. L. iHarris is to be painted and, last l year’s champion rink, pairs and singles winners are to be written up on same. Donations were made by members for the purpose of beautifying the surroundings of the green. Mr C. Larsen was thanked for his donation of a cup for the player who scores most points during the season in ’ competitive games, and also for a further donation to the club funds. Great Bowling Record. « Mr F. L. Barr in his address to members at last night’s Bowling Club meeting, referred to the successes of Mr W. C. M. Sorensen, who, in addition to being the singles champion of the club and skip of the champion rink, also holds the following Centre trophies: Pragnell Cup (18 times out of 19 games played), Grady Medals (with Mr H. Simmonds as lead) and the Centre Fours (with Messrs A. E. Pankhurst, 'H. Simmonds and A. C. Tucker as the other members of his team). This is a truly wonderful achievement and Mr Sorensen was heartily congratulated by the president of the Wairarapa Centre, Mr Geo. Hayne. Church Services. A Church of England service will be held at Parkvale on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. Personal. Mr J. Tinsley and son, of Palmerston North, who have been staying with Mr and Mrs A. Tinsley, Kent Street, Carterton, returned to their home today. Word was received by Mrs Wright, of Clareville, yesterday, that her son, Private Phillip S. Wright, has been wounded in action in the Middle East. At the meeting of the Carterton

Bowling Club last evening, Mr F. L. Barr (president) referred to two members of the club, Messrs A. Goulden and J. F. Billington, who, since the last annual meeting, had joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force. He hoped they would progress well and return to New Zealand, and extended best wishes to both members. Mr H. Nees, Y.M.C.A. secretary, whe is shortly leaving Carterton, was presented with a wellfilled hold-all from the Carterton Patriotic Committee. The presentation was made by the chairman, Mr H. Mortenson, and Mr Nees, in a very neat speech, thanked everyone for their help and kindness during his stay in Carterton and district.
