BUDAPEST SMOKING
AFTER HEAVY BOMBING BY RUSSIANS FREEDOM RADIO GIVES FACTS. IN ANSWER TO OFFICIAL STATEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.50 p.m.) LONDON, September 10. Answering the official statement from Budapest that the Russian bombers caused only minor damage at Budapest on Wednesday night, the Hungarian Freedom Radio says very heavy damage was done. The radio announced: “The Russians dropped high explosive bombs of the heaviest calibre and also thousands of incendiaries, set fire to a chemical works, and damaged a bridge across the Danube. They also attacked shipping on the Danube. Budapest’s poor anti-aircraft defences could not cope with the situation. Many people were killed in the streets, because of a lack of raid shelters. Budapest today is smoking.” RAID ON BERLIN LIMITED NAZI ADMISSIONS. (Received This Day, 12.50 p.m.) LONDON, September 10. Russian bombers raided Berlin last night. The Berlin radio said air raiders were over the outskirts of the city ana mat no bombs fell in the centre of the city.
