Fined for Contempt of Court, The Court of Arbitration has delivered its reserved decision on the information laid by Frederick Daniel Cornwall, secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Labour, against Roy Cecil Temple, publisher of “The Dominion” newspaper, in which it was sought to recover a fine for an alleged offence under section 115 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1925. ' The information before the Court complained that comment contained in a paragraph published under the heading “Notes and Comment” on March 4, 1942, could have prejudicially affected the application by the New Zealand Drivers’ Union for an increase of general wage rates, which was heard by the Court of Arbitration on March 3,4, 10 and 11. The Court found that it had been established that the offence of which complaint was made had been committed and a fine of £2, with costs, was imposed.

Glass on Roadways. The breaking of glass on roadways is an offence. During the past few weeks a considerable quantity of broken glass has been seen on Masterton roads and the attention of the public is drawn to the fact that proceedings are likely to be taken against offenders. Now that tires are in short supply every effort should be made by all sections of the community, it is pointed out, to 'safeguard the tires in use. Dance at College. The College Assembly Hall was well filled bn Saturday night when a dance was held by the Wairarapa College Parents’ Association. Mr G. R. Permain ably carried out the duties of M.C. The winners of the Lucky Spot competition were Miss Butler and Lance-Corporal Jaine., Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra played the dance music. A ladies’ committee attended to the supper arrangements.
