KISKA HARBOUR
IN THE ALEUTIAN ISLANDS OCCUPIED BY JAPANESE. TRANSPORT SUNK BY AMERICAN BOMBERS. LONDON, June 21. The Japanese have occupied Kiska, in the Aleutian Islands, 700 miles from the nearest point of the Alaskan mainland and 600 miles west of Dutch Harbour. The United States Navy Department, announcing this, states that American Army bombers attacked small forces of Japanese ships in Kiska Harbour, hitting a cruiser and sinking a transport. Operations in the Aleutian Islands have been restricted owing to bad weather and the great distances involved. In the last few days the weather has cleared, enabling American planes to find their targets. The Japanese have put up tents and minor temporary buildings at Kiska.
