SESSION BUSINESS

PARLIAMENT TO MEET ON WEDNESDAY DEPARTMENTAL ESTIMATES. EXTENDED DISCUSSIONS UNLIKELY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Parliamentary session will be resumed next Wednesday following an adjournment extending over six weeks. Before the House of Representatives rose on May 9 the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, stated that consideration of the departmental estimates of revenue and expenditure would be the main business at the coming meeting of Parliament. No official indication has so far been given as to the likely duration of the session, but the opinion in political circles is that it will not last very long, possibly about three weeks at the outside. A Financial Statement was presented by the Prime Minister at the last meeting of Parliament, and legislation was also passed at that session levying the new duties and rates of taxation. In addition to the estimates, several financial documents usually tabled at the same time as the Budget will have to be presented. Some of lhe annual reports are also likely to be ready, but apart from the estimates none of these papers are likely to be discussed at any length. Little legislation, if indeed any at all, is expected. A secret session has been held on each occasion Parliament has met during the last year or so, and if members desire it presumably one will be held this time to enable them to hear and discuss the latest developments in the war situation.
