HOPEFUL VIEW

OF THE ANGLO SOVIET TREATY MORAL & POLITICAL VALUE. EMPHASISED BY GENERAL SIKORSKI. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 16. In the course of his address to the Polish National Council, the Premier of Poland, General Sikorski, said that the Anglo-Soviet agreement was a most important political and moral success for the United Nations. It would strengthen the fighting spirit of the occupied countries as well as that of the Soviet army, which at present was bearing the chief weight of the war on the Continent. General Sikorski said Britain held the leading position among the United Nations because of her war effort, and because she was in the war, not because she was attacked, but to defend her principles and carry out her obligations. Britain had increased her moral capital many times, and this was of great importance to the future. He was convinced that the treaty would have results on future Soviet-Polish relations. He believed that a strong Poland would again rise. Messages from the war fronts, including greetings from Marshal Timoshenko, General MacArthur, and Lord Gort, will be read at the anniversary demonstration and pageant of the Bri-tish-Soviet Alliance, in London on June 20, when Sir Stafford Cripps will be the chief speaker. The Soviet Ambassador in London, M. Maisky, and his wife, also Allied diplomats, will attend. The pageant will be entitled, “An Agreement of the Peoples.”
