Stent left Carterton yesterday to attend a Poultry Keepers’ Conference in Wellington. Aircraftman J. V. Gustofsen is spending leave in Carterton. ' Shortage of Labour. Cheese factory managers are becoming concerned in regard to the shortage of labour owing to the calling up of men for service in the armed forces. A similar problem is confronting dairy farmers. Shop Day on Friday. A shop day to assist in raising funds for the 1942 Patriotic Appeal will be held in Carterton on Friday. So far approximately £230 has been raised in Carterton in three shop days. Friday’s effort will be made by the Kokotau, Ahiaruhe and West Taratahi residents, and efforts are being made to establish a record in regard to takings. Severe Frost. Another severe frost was experienced in Carterton this morning. Wairarapa Rugby Union. A meeting of the general committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union will be held in Carterton tonight. Picture Entertainment. The patriotic picture entertainment in the Regent Theatre last night drew a large attendance, the picture company screening an ’ excellent programme in aid of the Carterton and district Heart-to-Heart Appeal. During the evening the Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, thanked the audience for their attendance and appealed for donations to the fund from the audience. The money thrown into a Union Jack carried by members of the Red Cross Transport in uniform amounted to over £lO. REGENT THEATRE STORY OF ADVENTURE. “They Met in Bombay,” will be finally shown tonight. It is a thrilling story of adventure and- intrigue in India and China. Clark Gable, Rosalind Russell and Peter Lorre are seen in the leading roles.
