BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston Borough Council was held on Thursday night, the Mayor (Mr Card) presiding. The Wairarapa Hospital Board wrote asking permission to instal a drying stove in the washhouse at Anzac Hall. The request was granted. Mr Roy Donald wrote offering £5 for a grader. It was decided to advise Mr Donald that the grader was not for sale but that arrangements could be made for the loan of the same. The Masterton County Council wrote advising that the heavy traffic frees due up till May 31 totalled £lOO 6s 8d The Waikato Hospital Board and the Pahiatua Borough Council wrote in connection with the excessive increase in hospital charges, and suggesting that a conference be held to cuss the matter. The council agreed with the sentiments contained in the letters. The Army Reserve Transport was granted the free use of the gymnasium at the Town Hall.; . The ranger reported having dealt with 12 head of cattle.

Patriotic Shop Day,

The organiser and helper at the Patriotic Shop Day, held in Featherston yesterday, are to be congratulated on the excellent results.

The following were the stall-holders, and the returns in connection with the various stalls: —Cake t stall: Mesdames H. Lawsen, J. J. McKenzie, H. Hunter, H. W. Cundy and V. Bergh; takings, £l3 3s. Flower stall: Mrs Arch. Clark, £4 2s 3d. Tea: Mrs J. McKenna, £3 7s 6d. Jumble and white elephant stall: Mesdames D. H. S. Riddifotd, Harrison and Miss Jean Donald, £22 12s 9d. Meat and produce stall: Mesdames R. R. P. Hardy, W. S. Benton and H. Graham, Messrs W. S. Benton, R. R. P. Hardy and H. Graham, £l7 9s 9d. A competition held for a box of chocolates donated by Mr Stewart Reid realised £2 16s. The sum taken was £64 Os 3d. A dinner donated by Mrs G. S. Sharp was won by Mrs Boyce. A well-groomed donkey and cart attracted the attention of both young and old when it paraded the streets. Many children willingly paid 3d for a ride, and as a result the takings were increased by £l. •
