CARTERTON
ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The half-yearly meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge was held last evening and was presided over by P.G. Sister K. Mitchell. A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives and family of the late P.G. Bro. John Fensham. Sick pay amounting to £9 17s 6d was ordered to be paid and other accounts totalling £l7O were passed for payment. One member declared off the sick funds of the lodge. A refund from the Wellington District Hospital Association amounting to £9 9s was received. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted: —N.G., Sister M. E. Mellish, P.G.; V.G., Bro. J. A. T. Stevens, P.G.; E.S., Bro. G. S. Bruce, P.G. The subordinate officers will be appointed on the next lodge night when the elected officers will be installed into office. The Deputy Grand Master of the Wellington District, Bro. R. Farrow, is to be invited to instal the new officers. Boy’s Lucky Escape. In the wind and rain storm which raged yesterday afternoon a small son of Mr and Mrs G. Stark stepped off the footpath in front of the Marquis Hotel: He had his head down against the storm and walked almost in front of an oncoming Army service bus. The child was not noticed by the driver until he was almost upon him. The driver applied his brakes and swerved the vehicle to one side but the boy was hit by the mudguard. He was taken into Mr Lenihan’s boot shop where it was found he was not seriously hurt. REGENT THEATRE “THE LADY EVE." One of the greatest comedies ever brought to the screen, “The Lady Eve,” will be shown tonight. Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda have the leading roles.
