FIRM STAND
TAKEN BY DANISH KING AGAINST NAZI DEMAND. FOR PERSECUTION OF JEWS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, January 6. The Stockholm correspondent of the “Daily Express” says that King Christian of Denmark has threatened to abdicate if Germany’s demand for the application of the Nuremburg antiJewish laws is forced on the Danish Government. The German Minister at Copenhagen a fortnight ago asked for the application of the anti-Jewish laws to Denmark, and the Prime Minister, Mr Stuning, took the “request” to the King, who refused to consider it. Cabinet subsequently voted by 6 to 3 against the application. The Germans demanded that King Christian should overrule Cabinet, and the King replied that he would not go beyond the original agreement forced on Denmark when the Germans marched in. He added that if Hitler wanted to persecute the Jews in Denmark he would relinquish the throne.
