SWIMMING CLUB ENJOYABLE DANCE. (“Times-Age’'’ Special.) There was an excellent attendance at the dance held by the Featherston Swimming Club and a most enjoyable time was spent by patrons. The arrangements were complete in every detail, and those responsible are to be congratulated on their efforts. The music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra. Mr P. Habib was M.C. During the evening Miss M. Gore, a well-known Wellington singer, gave several much appreciated items, the accompaniments being played by Miss Grace Fraser. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Mrs Morris and partner. Personal Items. Mr C. Rowe, Wellington, is visiting his mother, Mrs Rowe, Underhill Road. Miss M. Thurston, Masterton, is the guest of Miss M. Tocker. Mrs T. C. Lomas and Mrs M. V. Reid have returned to’ Wellington after a brief visit to Featherston. Miss Joyce Hatton is spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs and Miss Buchanan, Christchurch, were the guests of Mrs J. Mutter during the week. Service of Prayer. A special New Year service and service of prayer in connection with the war was held in St John's Church last evening. A pastoral letter was read from Bishop Holland and a New Year message from the leaders of the churches in New Zealand. There was a large congregation. Home Guard. The members of the Home Guard are showing keen interest in their work, and the average attendance at parades recently has been over one hundred. No. 2 Platoon did splendid work yesterday in connection with the preparation of defence sites near the town. COSY THEATRE WEDNESDAY’S PROGRAMME. “Magic in Music,” will be screened on Wednesday and this grand musical comedy stars Allan Jones. Susanna Foster and Margaret Lindsay. The management assure patrons that there is a treat in store for them. (Recommended by the Censor for adults).
