Miss Underhill, of Carterton, has left for Auckland where she will in future reside. Mr and Mrs F. Groube, Swamp Road, Carterton, are visiting Whakatane. Mr Wilf R. Harry, who* has been an inmate of the Masterton Hospital for some time and who has returned to his home, is making slow progress towards recovery. Mrs Wilson, of Dannevirke, is staying with Mrs W. Hayden, Holloway Street, Carterton. Mr M. L. Boden, Wyndham Street, has returned to his home after having jjtundergone an operation at the Master- * ton Hospital. Damage Caused by Gale. The gale yesterday morning did considerable damage to orchards and gardens in many parts of the district, and sheds were unroofed. Heavy rain caused rivers in the district to overflow their banks. Snow on Ranges. z Last night's westerly storm brought a further heavy fall of snow on the Tararua ranges. E.P.S. Meeting. A general meeting of the Carterton branch of the E.P.S. was held in the Wairarapa P. and A. Society’s rooms last evening, Mr D. L. Taverner (Mayor) presiding. There were also present: Messrs W. Steven, E. H. Smith, J. C. Harp, E. T. Beaven, Geo. Brown, C. C. Callender, W. Candy, Williams, P. Beere, J. Churchouse, H. Mortensen, F. Court, Misses O. W. Wolters and C. Berrill, Mesdames Barr, Ordish and Fairbrother.- Apologies for absence were received from Messrs B. Roberts, M.P., E. McKenzie, J. Lawrence, E. Pankhurst, W. S. Hill and F. L. Barr., It was resolved to write to the Traffic Department with a view to obtaining the services of certain men made available in the event of emeigency. It was decided to write to the Department of National Defence foi a ruling in respect to E.P.S. members being covered by insurance for injuijes received while practicing for an emergency. The Mayor was requested to authorise all controllers and deputies to attest members of various committees. The Women’s War Auxiliary were given authority to arrange with the>
