NAZI GRIP
FASTENING ON NORTH AFRICA MEN OF VICHY SAID TO BE ALARMED. FRENCH ARMY BECOMING RESTIVE. LONDON, November 17. Members of the Vichy Government, including Marshal Petain and Admiral Darlan, are considerably- alarmed al German infiltration in North Africa, says the “Daily Mail’s” diplomatic correspondent.
An important German mission, headed by the son of Baron von Neurath, has just arrived in North Africa on a visit of inspection. French officers and the rank and file arc becoming restive as a consequence of the continued infiltration, because they realise that the French-German armistice was nothing but a trick. General Huntziger was sent to North Africa, and after confirming Vichy’s worst fears, was returning when his plane crashed and he was killed. German experts now flowing into Tunis, Algeria and Morocco are mostly described as economists and teachers, but they are really reinforcements for the German Africa Corps, which is fastening its grip on French North Africa.
