TO TRY IS TO SUCCEES
The task of building up the edifice of the character is a lifelong one, writes Father Aloysius Roche in his book “The Things That Matter." And the task of rebuilding it out of its ruins—if this be not too harsh a word—is always slow. It may take just as long to unlearn bad ways as it did to acquire them. The retracing of our steps means that we have to cover the same amount of ground as wo had advanced along the wrong turning. But every single victory we gain in this way brings us nearer to the goal. And as long as we arc trying we are succeeding.
