DYE’S SUSPENSION INCREASED TO ONE YEAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The appeal of the apprentice jockey E. V. Dye, whose licence was suspended fdy' six months from October 27, 1941, by the Waverley Racing Club for foul riding, was considered by the Racing Conference appeal ' judges in Wellington yesterday. The judges were: Mr H. R. Chalmers (chairman), Mr C. W. Tringham and Mr J. Macfarlane Laing. , The appeal judges had before them the reports of proceedings at the judicial inquiry in Waverley, and of the Wanganui District Committee, which heard Dye's appeal from the suspension. The judges also heard further evidence tendered on behalf of appellant, and reheard the evidence of the apprentice R. W. Read, who, immediately after the race, complained to the deputy stipendiary steward. The judges expressed the view that the judicial committee of the Waverley Racing Club was fully justified in its finding, and that the Wanganui District Committee erred in finding the charge of foul riding not proved. The judges were of the opinion that the penalty, in view of the seriousness of the offences, was inadequate. They therefore dismissed the appeal and ordered that the term of suspension be increased from six months to 12 months. Dye’s deposit was forfeited.

PLACINGS ALTERED. AN APPEAL SUCCEEDS. " (By Telegraph—Press 'Association.) HASTINGS. November 13. At the Gisborne Turf Club’s race meeting on October 27 the judge’s placings in the Opou Handicap were Dusky Morn first by a nose, Arabic second and Red Cockade third. Immediately after the race an objection was lodged by N. Howard, rider of Arabic, against C. B. Goulsbro, rider of Dusky Morn, alleging interference. After the inquiry the judicial committee ruled against the objection and confirmed the judge’s placings. Against this Mr W. H. Corlett, owner of Arabic, appealed to the Hawke's Bay District Committee.

The appeal was heard at a meeting of the committee last night, when there were present Messrs Geo. Ebbett (chairman), T. V. Morrin, W. A. Tod and H. F. Troutbeck. Mr B. N. Sandilands, stipendiary steward, was also present. After considering the evidence given in Gisborne, also further evidence by R. Marsh, rider of Red Cockade, and also a further written statement by Mr E. Fitzgerald, owner of Dusky Morn, the committee unanimously resolved under Rule 361 that the appeal of Mr Corlett be upheld and the decision of the judicial committee be varied, Arabic to be placed first and Dusky Morn second.
