WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MATARAWA—DALEFIELD. MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Mata-rawa-Dalefield Women's Institute was held in the Dalefield Hall when Mrs Nielsen presided over a fair attendance of members. Several members volunteered to take home wool to knit into garments for the men of the Mercantile Marine. It was decided to forward two boxes, of cakes to the A.N.A. Club in Wellington. A letter was received from Pte. A. L. Bigwood thanking members for a parcel received. Mrs P. Hodder forwarded a letter which she had recently received from her son Ray, who is now a prisoner of war. Members were pleased to know that his health was good. A song by Mrs Rofe was much enjoyed and two competitions were held. The winners of the month’s competition were: Senior, Yankee cake, Mrs Nielsen 1, Mrs W. Ticehurst 2, Mrs Linton 3; flowers, best bloom, Mrs W. Ticehurst 1, Mrs W. Knowles 2, Mrs L. Rogers 3. Juniors, Yankee cake, Gwen Conwell'l, Jean Conwell 2, Iris Zillwood 3; best bloom, Beth Knowles 1, Gwen Conwell 2, Joyce Goodin 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs E. Smith, Misses J. Nielsen, P. Knowles and the secretary.
