Yesterday’s street collection, with which the Wellington Returned Services’ Association began to raise £30,000 for the provision of new premises, produced £3131, the largest amount ever collected on the streets of Wellington and its suburbs in one day. The previous largest collection was the £2630 given for the Sick and Wounded Fund one day last year. War and Industry.

This year’s annual conference of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation will be held at Wairakei from Tuesday till Friday of next week. More than 100 delegates will attend the conference, which will be opened by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Sullivan. The remits cover a wide range of subjects, but particular consideration will be given to the relationship of civilians to war production, manpower problems, and the effect, of the Government’s price stabilisation policy on manufacturing industries whose principal costs such as those of raw materials and wages have not also been stabilised. The conference will be presided over by Mr C. V. Smith, president of the federation. Gifts of Clothing and Blankets.
