Mrs A. J. Cooper. Victoria Street. Masterton, and Miss A. Brown, of Essex Street, have been spending a few days at Eastbourne. Mrs W. J. Carbis, Eltham, whose death occurred at Hawera, was born at Motherwell, Scotland, 70 years ago, and went with her father, the late Mr James Brown, to New Plymouth as a child, later going to Nelson and returning to New Plymouth, where she was mauled in 1905 to Mr Carbis, a veteran of the South African war, and well known in Masonic Lodge circles. Mrs Carbis lived with her husband at Manaia and Awatuna before retiring (o Eltham some two years ago.
