WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT PONGAROA. COMPETITION WINNERS. There was an attendance of fifteen members of the Pongaroa Women’s Institute at the monthly meeting. Mrs Kent presided. It was decided that owing to obstacles, such as benzine restrictions, etc., the Institute should not avail itself of the series of lectures given by Miss Cocks-Johnson. The Institute will be unable to enter a team in the forthcoming Drama Festival of the Bush Federation.

The President expressed thanks to all members for their assistance at the street stall to raise funds for those who suflered personal loss through the recent flood. The effort resulted in a profit of £59 10s. For the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild eight useful garments were handed in. and for the Air Force Relations two scarves and one pullover. Another three pounds of wool for the latter was distributed. There were four entries in the cookery competition (pastry squares unfilled) the winner being Mrs Kent. In a wall competition, arranged by Mrs Jensen, three members tied. Mrs Eunson being the winner.

Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Jensen, Theed. McGregor and Roy Scott.
