GOLF TEAM FOR MARTINBOROUGH MATCH. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Pirinoa Golf Club will play its first inter-club match for the season against Martinborough, at Martinborough, on Saturday. The following is the local team: —J. Riwai, M. Herangi. M. McLeod, W. Stewart. T. Hume, G. Sutherland, D. Tikao. M. Waiwera, S. Thomas, G. Hall, S. Hall. J. Carter, N. Hume, D. Didsbury, W. Charteris, F. Lovegrove. The final round for the Hume Memorial Cup was played on Saturday. Gordon Sutherland proved the winner by three strokes from S. Thomas, who was closely followed by N. Hume. The aggregate scores of the first three players were: Sutherland 72-67-72—211; Thomas 71-72-71—214; M. Hume 67-79-70—216. The first round fox’ the Campbell Cup was also played, the best net card being put in by S. Hall, who wins also a trophy for the best net score in the first round. His handicap has been reduced to 22. Following are the best cards handed in: S. Hall 93-24-69, M. Herangi 82-12-70. S. Thomas 90-19-71. G. Sutherland 89-17-72. N. Hume 92-22-70.

Personal. Among those reported wounded is Private Noel Duggan, son of Mr Jas. Duggan. Information has come to hand that Corporal Sargent and Privates Cliff Hume and Alt Griggs are well. Mrs T. Te Maari. who has been visiting relatives in Wanganui, has returned home. Mr G. Taurau has returned home after attending the Mormon Parish conference at Manaia. Mr Norman Allen. Wellington, is the guest of Mr and Mrs Trevor Hume. Mr Richard Murphy, who has been a resident of this district for the past forty years and who attained the age of 76 years recently, entertained a large circle of friends at the Lake Ferry. Mr Murphy was the recipient of many congratulatory messages from friends far and near. Miss Joan Lovegrove was the guest of honour on Monday, when a large number of friends assembled to wish her "many happy returns of the day.’’ Miss Lovegrove attained her majority that day and she was the recipient of many messages of good wishes for the future. Miss Lovegrove is exceedingly popular with everyone, not only in the social activities of the district, but also in her official capacity as assistant at the local post office. Mr and Mrs H. Swainson, Lake Ferry, have returned from a week's holiday. Mr J. Carter, representing the Lower Valley natives, attended a meeting of natives held at the weekend at Te Ore Ore in connection with the Papawai and Akura endowments.

Southerly Storm. A raging southerly, accompanied by heavy rain and hail, set in early on Monday evening. and continued throughout the night. The hills were covered in snow yesterday and the weather continues bad with hail and snow falling. Home Guard. A parade of the Home Guard is to be held at the weekend. Wedding. A wedding of widespread interest was celebrated at Christchurch when Miss Patricia Powrie, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Powrie, of Christchurch, was married to Sergeant Norman Warren Martin, only son of Mr and Mrs A. B. Martin, Martinborough. The bridegroom is a member of a wellknown and highly respected family of this district. MT David and the late Mr Arthur Warren are uncles of Sergeant Marlin.
