9 NEEDS OF AMERICAN NAVY. RESERVES FROM MERCHANT MARINE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 18. The Secretary for the Navy (Colonel Knox) announced today that Naval Reserve officers now serving with the Merchant Marine may be ordered on active duty without thejr consent. Naval recruiting officers have been instructed to recruit 15 000 men monthly. Colonel Knox explained that the Navy would not conflict with the Merchant Marine unnecessarily, but the Navy's urgent need must be met.
