Mr W. McLay has been elected as president of the Wellington Employers’ Association. The death occurred at Christchurch yesterday of Mr F. W. Rowley, a former Secretary of the Labour Department, aged 66. The Rev. C. G. Hedley Bycroft, of the United Congregational Church, Dunedin, has received a unanimous call to the Cambridge Terrace Congregational Church, Wellington. Mr F. L. Smith, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Suva, has been appointed by the Patriotic Fund Board as its non. commissioner with the New Zealand forces in Fiji. After nearly 53 years’ service, Mr William Easton has resigned his position as general manager of the Otago Daily Times Company, and has been succeeded by Mr W. R. Sinclair, who has been accountant for a number of years. At a social recently hold in Hastwell to entertain local soldiers, Private Bert Kerr, who has resided for a number of years in Mangamahoe was amongst the number present. Mr Thorby, on behalf of the district presented Private Kerr with a shaving outfit and on behalf of the Mauriceville Table Tennis Club, Mr W. Cheetham also made him a presentation.
