Responsibility for correctly grading eggs was primarily with the wholesale distributor. If, however, a retailer chose to purchase direct from a producer, the responsibility of seeing that eggs were correctly graded lay with the retailer. Retailers were required prominently to display a ticket or placard plainly indicating the grade. There wore four of these —heavy, standard, medium and pullet.
