FAREWELL SOCIAL

MR. AND MRS. J. H. GARDINER HONOURED. GATHERING IN MASTERTON. A very enjoyable time was spent at the Oddfellows Hall. Masterton. on Saturday night, when the friends of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Gardiner and family entertained them at a farewell social prior to their departure from Masterton. Dancing and competitions interspersed with musical items made a very attractive programme. During the evening Mr. W. Orange, on behalf of those present, expressed to the guests their best wishes for their success and prosperity in their new sphere, and asked them to accept a handsome silver teapot as a small token of esteem. To the children he handed silver serviette rings. Mr. Gardiner suitably returned thanks. Items were rendered by Misses Betty Gray, Florence Pickering, Noeline Blackwood. Messrs Fulton. Jack Handcock and Miss Diggins. Mesdames J. Gray W. Orange and Messrs Davidson and Ron. Butler supplied the music. Miss Lon. McGee was the winner of the competition which was held, and Miss Joan Torrence and partner won the Monte Carlo waltz. The hostesses were Mesdames A. Torrence. W. Butler, C. Reardon, C. Pickering, R. Allen. D. Allen. J. Gray. W. Orange and J. Blackwood. The evening concluded with the singing of auld lang syne. Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner and family will leave for the South Island this week. Mr. Gardiner having received an appointment with the Otago Electric Power Board, at Milton.
