TAUERU RIVER BRIDGE
CLOSED FOR REPAIRS. ROAD USERS SHOULD NOTE INSTRUCTIONS. ’ Road users arc notified that the Taueru River Bridge on the MastertonGladstone Highway is closed for repairs until further notice. Due to the passage of an exceptional load, the lower chord of the upstream, truss has been broken. It should be noted that the lower chord has to take the Tull weight cl any loads on the bridge and its failure makes the bridge totally unsafe for all traffic. Road users arc reminded that if they respect the instructions of the authorities and do not interfere with the barricades placed across the approaches, repairs wiil be completed within the next few weeks. If. on the other hand attempts are made to use the bridge, a complete collapse will result and settlers will be faced with the serious inconvenience of having no bridge at ail until such time as a new one might bo constructed, possibly not less than 12 months hence. .
