GOLD MINING

COMPANY RETURNS. The Rimu Flat dredge last week washed up 188.90 z of gold from 42.141 yards excavated in 127 hours 38 minutes. Because of a fracture of the bottom tumbler, the Ngahere dredge, near Blackball, has been idle for a week. The directors are making every endeavour to procure a bottom tumbler, to be used till the arrival of a new one from Australia. Alexander Mines Limited reports for the week ended April 24 as follows:— No. 6 level: North drive has been advanced 20 feet, making a total of 35 feet. The fault line being followed shows very little change from previous report. Stoping has been continued on same faces as last week, the width of reef remaining the same, 24 inches. During the week 25 tons were sent to the battery. The Okarito dredge return was 18oz for 125 hours' work. For the week ended April 26 the Clutha River dredge at Alexandra worked 117 hours for 350 z of gold.
