FIRE BRIGADE SHIELD WIN FOR LOCAL TEAM. (“Times-Age" Special.) The annual competition for the InterBrigade Shield was held at Eketahuna on Saturday between teams representing the Eketahuna and Pahiatua Fire Brigades. Unfortunately this year the Woodville Brigade did not compete owing to difficulty in obtaining men to train. By winning two out of the three wet events, Eketahuna won the shield from Pahiatua after an interesting contest. Pahiatua. however, were able to retain the E. H. Lett Cup for the oneman dry event, and also the Novice Cup for firemen of 18 months’ service which was also a dry event. The competition was run in rain, but this failed to dampen the keenness of the competitors, whose work was efficiently carried out. The fine spirit of comradeship that exists between the two brigades was responsible for an enjoyable afternoon’s sport. The starter for the various events was. Constable G. Hogg, of Pahiatua, who. for the past few years has been the official starter at the New Zealand demonstrations. The officials carried out their duties admirably, with the result that harmony was the keynote of the competition. The officials were: — Starter, Mr G. Hogg (wet events), Mr E. H. Lett (dry events); judges, De-puty-Superintendent H. Daniel and secretary S. Daniel (dry events). Superintendent W. Lawry, Firemen J. H. Ryan and R. Fafeita (wet events); timekeepers, Firemen G. .lesson and Mr W. J. Henderson. The following are the results:- — Novice Cup (dry coupling event): Fireman T. The Pahiatua and Eketahuna teams met at Eketahuna on Saturday, the game being won by Pahiatua by 76 runs in the first innings. Scores: — Pahiatua, first innings, 131 (Sandman 55.
