BUSH RUGBY RESULTS OF SATURDAY'S GAMES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Bush Rugby Union's matches on Saturday resulted as follows: — Senior. Mangatainoka 6, Konini 3. Nireaha 9, Pahiatua 6 . Eketahuna won from Marima by default. Third Grade. Mangatainoka 11, Hukanui 0. Pahiatua 8. Eketahuna 6. Pahiatua B won by default from Nireaha. For the Eketahuna third grade team a try was scored by Kewley and Steer kicked a penalty goal. The Studebaker Cup has been won by Eketahuna. GOLF CONTESTS EKETAHUNA DEFEATS HAMUA. The weather conditions for golf were again adverse during the weekend. The third round of the White Cup competition was completed and one game played in the semi-final. In the third round Anderson beat Tuckett, D. Fraser beat M. Wilson, Murray beat Higginson and H. Walton beat Liardet. In the semi-finals H. Walton beat Murray. The best scores returned in the medal match were:—Anderson, score 98. handicap 29, total 69; Tredray 93-23-70; M. Fraser 83-10-73. Eketahuna was too good on the day’s play for Hamua on the occasion of the annual match between the two clbs, Eketahuna winning 16 games to Hamua’s 5. The highlight of the match was the excellent score returned by the youthful player, M. Fraser, who completed the course in 74 strokes. The ladies’ club decided two competitions during the weekend but the weather conditions did not permit of good scoring. The medal match results are: Miss P. O’Regan, score 105, handicao 31, total 74; Miss E. Simmers 113, 36, 77. The best card handed in for the second round of the Southey Cup bogey competition was that of Miss P. O'Regan. 5 down. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES CARD TOURNAMENT. The Friendly Societies’ card tournament which been in progress during the winter months is nearing completion. The last games resulted in wins for Odd Fellows and Druids. As the Odd Fellows and Druids are now equal in points great interest will be manifested in. this week’s play which will probably decide the premiership. CATHOLIC CHURCH NEW PRESBYTERY. It is expected that the contractor will shortly commence work on the erection of the new Catholic Presbytery. The Presbytery is being built on a section adjoining the Sacred Heart Church. A Tough Spider. It is generally assumed that the inhabitants of Eketahuna are a hardy lot. But a local housewife is prepared to hand the palm to a spider. During the recent visitation of : snow and frost a large spider was observed embalmed in a block of ice which remained uifthawed for three days. Came the thaw and the spider apparently quite unaffected by his three days imprisonment scuttled away to the usual feminine shrieks of dismay. Piano Recital. The celebrated Austrian pianist, Paul Schramm, gave a recital at the Eketahuna District High School on Friday. Mr Schramm’s youthful audience was thrilled and delighted by his masterly renditions.
